CASL is a multidisciplinary group of scientists and healthcare providers whose expertise focuses on the liver, and provides national leadership in all aspects of research, education and patient care as they pertain to the liver.

Education/Accreditation

Section 3: Self-Assessment Programs must meet 4 criteria as defined by the RCPSC Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program:

  • The program must be planned to address the identified needs of the target audience with a specific subject area, topic or problem.
  • The program must describe the methods that enable participants to demonstrate or apply their knowledge, skills, clinical judgement or attitudes.
  • The program must provide detailed feedback to participants on their performance to enable the identification of any area(s) requiring improvement through the development of a future learning plan.
  • The program must be developed independent of the influence of any commercial or other conflicts of interest.

Credits: 3 credits per hour

Self-Assessment Programs approved under Section 3 must be developed or co-developed by a planning committee consisting of members of a physician organization.

Self-assessment programs are not tests — they are assessment strategies to help physicians develop an effective continuing professional development plan linked to their professional roles and responsibilities.

The application must be submitted electronically with all required documentation attached a minimum of six (6) weeks prior to the CPD event to casl@hepatology.ca.


 

Section 3: Simulation Programs must meet 4 criteria as defined by the RCPSC Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program:

  • The program must be planned to address the identified needs of the target audience with a specific subject area, topic or problem.
  • The program must include learning objectives that address the identified needs of the target audience must be created for the simulation-based activity. Learning objectives must be printed on the program, brochure and/or handout materials.
  • The program must describe the methods that enable participants to demonstrate or apply their knowledge, skills, clinical judgement or attitudes.
  • The program must provide detailed feedback to participants on their performance to enable the identification of any area(s) requiring improvement through the development of a future learning plan.

Simulation approximates real-life situations, allowing participants to demonstrate (and receive feedback on) their application of knowledge (scientific and tacit), clinical reasoning, communication and problem-solving, as well as their ability to collaborate and work effectively in a health care team.
